I Thought I'd Have Turned Into a Bird by Now
This ring of eight miniature books and thread make up a poem that can be read in any number of ways. It’s a circular blue sky-sea creature that wants to feather its way to freedom. The lines are:
I thought the sky smaller than it is.
I thought maybe one day I’d sprout a wing.
I thought of the dawn chorus early morn birdsong.
I thought threading raindrops and sunbeams would be easier.
I thought the floating feathers were a body.
I thought can’t a flying thing be a little silly.
It was on display with the 2025 Building Books 3 Exhibition at the Mark Twain Library in Connecticut.
